I know this some of this information probably resides in the Error and Variations thread, but I don't want to weed through 20 pages of that thread. I am trying to come up with a somewhat definitive list of variations in the 1991 Topps Baseball set. Here is the list that I have so far:

All of the cards with an A* and B* print designation have either a bold logo or a regular logo.

I believe that these are all generally accepted by the hobby as variations. There are a couple of others that I have heard mentioned but I am not sure what they are: Chris Hoiles, Scott Coolbaugh and Robin Ventura. I have also heard about (I believe) that the C* sheet comes with the red box where the player's name is on the back in either a bold or regular version (the topps logo is not bold). I have compared some of my cards and it does seem that this is similar to the bold logo version for the A and B sheets. Anyone have any thoughts on whether or not this is a printing error or a legitmate variation.

I am going to search EBAY to see if there are any others posted there - I know there are a number of cards with an E*F* sheet designation and I believe that some of them were corrected, but I only have one version of them.

If you have any additional variations to add to this list, please let me know and if possible, post a scan. For the purposes of this exercise, I am not considering wrong back/fronts as variations, but rather printing mistakes.

2008 Standard Catalog: No 461a (Grey inner photo frame) and 461b (Red inner photo frame) Robin Ventura . I always thought it more brown than grey, but anyways there is a difference.

I've heard of some green ink variations where there is some green ink smudge marks on many of the cards...don't know much else about that though. I picked a McGwire version up. Not sure if it is legit though

I think EVERY card in the set has a 40 year anniversary variation.

On the back of each card is a "ghosted" 40 ann. logo with most being very faint pink.
But you can also find dark RED logos which arent "ghosted"

I haven't seen any dark red logo that weren't from the A or B sheets. If you have any that are from the other sheets, I would definitely be interested in seeing them.

Onion - do you have a scan of the green ink cards. I think they might just be a printing error, but if I know what to look for, I can check out my cards.

I did notice from the last box that I broke (which seems to contain the error version of most of the cards) that the cards printed from the D sheet are on a different color card stock than the others (it is dark grey rather than light grey). Does anyone know anything about this?

I don't have a scan, but according to the catalog the Chris Hoiles variation 42a (white inner photo frame) and 42b (grey inner border frame) seems to be of the same nature as the Ventura variation. Also I seem to remember there was some talk of the logo on the back being missing altogether on some cards, but cannot verify that. Perhaps someone on here knows.

I'll try to get you a scan of the green smudge later this evening. Here are the ghost/bold varations. As you can see for McGwire there are 4 variations of this card (bold correct, bold error, ghost correct, ghost error) then possibly a 5th with this green smudge error I'll try to scan later. I'm pretty sure the above post was correct that this exists for every card:

1) Bold correct
2) Bold error
3) Ghost correct
4) Ghost error

From the source it was a confirmed version. They have it listed as easy to find. I'll PM you the contact info and maybe someone there can provide a pic or extra copy.
