Born on April 25, 1983 in Toronto, Ontario, Andy Chiodo was a more than competent young goalie playing for Toronto in the OHL. He was first drafted by the Islanders in 2001, but could not be signed, so the Pittsburgh Penguins ended up redrafting him with the 199th pick in 2003. After the conclusion of his junior career in 2002-03, Chiodo turned to the pro ranks in 2003-04. Hovering between the ECHL and AHL, Chiodo was eventually called upon by the Pittsburgh Penguins who were struggling mightily in what would eventually be one of their worst seasons in franchise history. Chiodo got his chance on February 18, 2004. In his NHL debut, he faced the team that first drafted him, the New York Islanders. Despite making 30 saves, he was defeated 4-3. His first career win came two games later for him on February 25th and it was in style seeing as the Penguins had been on an 18 game streak without a win to that point. He finished the season with 8 games played and was hungry for more. During the 2004-05 lockout year, Chiodo hovered between the ECHL and AHL once more. He played one additional season in North America in 2005-06, but ultimately could not crack the Penguins roster again. He then went to Europe for the next three seasons before being signed by the Ottawa Senators in 2009. Again, he spent the time hovering between the ECHL and AHL and he was ultimately not re-signed so he returned to Europe once more. After a brief 4 game stint in the ECHL in 2013-14, Chiodo returned to Europe until the conclusion of the 2016-17 season. After a fine and diverse playing career, Chiodo called it quits in September of 2017 and is currently the goaltending coach for the Ottawa 67s of the OHL.

In his NHL career, Chiodo appeared in 8 games and recorded a 3-4-1 record with a 3.46GAA, and a 0.892% save average. He appeared in no playoff games.

The piece you are looking at right now is a photomatched 2003-04 Set 2 Pittsburgh Penguins sweater worn by Andy Chiodo in several games, including his NHL debut and first NHL win. The wear is rather nice on the sweater featuring puck marks, piling, and some stick marks. Additionally, a KOHO or CCM logo on the back neck of the sweater (can't make it out based on the silhouette) was covered up with a small reebok patch on the sweater, a product of the one of the last good old days of jerseys when things like that occurred regularly.
