Help identifying this Ichiro rookie

Help identifying this Ichiro rookie
Card #596 in the 2001 Topps Chrome set is Albert Pujols. Ichiro's 2001 Topps Chrome card is #T266 in the Traded set. So what is this?

I collect Hall of Fame baseball player cards and cards of current and retired superstars.

RE: Help identifying this Ichiro rookie
Card #596 of Albert Pujols is the only card in the Chrome series that was NOT included in the regular 2001 Topps base set. Due to licensing restrictions, Ichiro Suzuki -- who was included to 2001 Topps Series Two -- could not be included in the Chrome edition. Therefore, Topps replaced Ichiro with Pujols. Ichiro's Chrome RC was added to 2001 Topps Chrome Traded.

So did it sneak out the back door or worse

The person who has it said he got it in 2001 in an Electronic Boutique. Do you suppose Topps made some of these before switching him out for Pujols because of the licensing issue? What sort of value would it have?

I once had a neighbor who worked for a major card maker and he claimed to have all kinds of stuff that was unique but was saving it for retirement and refused to show to anyone, so yes it could be made by topps. Value could be high if you can find a story about how it was made and pulled for the Pujols card. I could not find anything on the net about it anywhere even on Ichiro most wanted list.

So the front is the trade card with rookie card added and the back is the T266 back...maybe it was included as a premium in the factory set?? Odd that Ichiro collectors do not know about this...unless it is completely fake..like one of the guys here that makes cards..looks better than the company card..is that possible??

It has the 50th Anniversary logo on the reverse side ... Do they all have that?

I guess if I saved used tinfoil and used tea bags instead of old comic books and old baseball cards, the difference between a crazed hoarder and a savvy collector is in that inherent value.

After looking all over, I have one question and one statement:
1. Does the card look and feel more chrome or foil? Because apparently the Pujols card that took the Ichiro spot, was a late addition so it had a foil finish to it.
2. If not then I have a feeling this is either a fake or you happen to have one of the cards that Topps made before canceling him in the set. (So either worth nothing or worth a lot, haha)
Hope you find out, good luck! Smile

It's not my card. Someone contacted me through my website and asked if I would buy it. I told him I wasn't aware of there being and Ichiro Chrome rookie numbered 596 and he sent me the scans.

RE: Help identifying this Ichiro rookie
Based on all the info I gathered...there was no mistaken release of any 2001 Topps Chrome Ichiro Suzuki cards in the base set. Unless this is a rare, never before talked about or seen by human eyes card, then this is a fake.

My opinion...send the pics to Topps and see what they say. Can't hurt.
