For those wondering, this is why Curry's card prices are skyrocketing. It is not all about manipulation. People that are novices in the collecting world are buying into as much Curry rookie stuff as they can get. They are seeing that the Topps and Upper Deck cards are hot and they are going after them. Honestly if you're looking to invest in cards you might want to learn a lot more about them in general before throwing a grand or more into a single card.

I can agree with some of what you are saying but I'm only asking about the black parallel rookie card of Steph Curry, which nobody seems to know much about. I'm aware of the gold and white refractors. The gold refractor /50 and the white refractor /500, the Chrome /999. So I know a little about the Curry cards if you still doubt what I know. However, I don't know enough about this black parallel card. For example, how many of them exist and are they worth more than the gold refractors. What can you tell me about the black parallel card?

The black cards are parallels serial numbered to 50. The gold refractors are also numbered out of 50. Thus they both have the same quantity. In fact they were both inserted into the same packs 2009-10 Topps (as that year Topps Chrome and it's parallels were inserts in the regular Topps packs). Since they are both serial numbered to 50, the odds of getting a Topps Black and a Topps Gold Refractor were exactly the same out of the same packs. In theory that would make them the same value. However cards don't always follow basic logic when it comes to value. Topps Chrome has always carried a higher value than basic Topps, so even though they were inserted into the same packs at the same rate, the Chrome gold refractor is more desirable and thus worth more. That being said grading can also affect values, in that if most of the cards get graded as 9 or lower, having one that grades as a 9.5 or 10 will drastically increase the value.

Well said. That's the information I was looking for. Thanks :-)

Part of it is the stock ... the gold refractor is on much better Chrome stock and potentially could grade much higher, whereas a lot of Topps' paper parallels are notorious for chipping, white corners, etc.
Not to mention the "shiny" factor of a refractor ... they're both great cards, but a Chrome card is almost always going to be more attractive than a paper card.

But make no mistake ... the parallel is still a monster of a card!
