Trout entered the league at age 19. Canseco at 20. Small partial seasons on both parts.
Trout first full season at age 20. Wins ROY. (.326/30 HR/49 SB/83 RBI/129 R)
Canseco first full season at age 21. Wins ROY. (.240/33 HR/15 SB/117 RBI/85 R)
Trout second full season at age 21. (.323/27 HR/33 SB/97 RBI/109 R)
Canseco second full season at age 22. (.257/31 HR/15 SB/113 RBI/81 R)
Trout third full season at age 22. Wins MVP. (.287/36 HR/16 SB/111 RBI/115 R)
Canseco third full season at age 23. Wins MVP. (.307/42 HR/40 SB/124 RBI/120 R) Becomes first player to hit 40 HR and steal 40 bases in a single season.
I thought the ROY and MVP years being 1st and 3rd full seasons for both players were worthy of a comparison of their first three seasons.
It is what it is, I know some of you guys will want to mention other particular stats, and that's cool, but those listed are what i've always focused on. On-Base % is obviously important. Mike Trout is much better in the OB% as well as SLG%. WAR also, but that's theoretical nonsense, IMO.
Anyway, I thought this was interesting, and thought I'd make a thread about it. Canseco was the man when I was a kid, and kids now have Trout, so, yeah. Compared them.
