How about Randy Johnson? He will be inducted into the hall of fame in early 2015 and I think that will give a boost to his card values.
Always looking for Al Kaline cards - Mr. Tiger!

mm.. you meant a safe investment, right? or as safe as a piece of cardboard can get..

honus
mantle
dimaggio
ruth
ryan

there are many.. notice i did not use numbers.. but new guys.. naahh.. 30+ years should be the newest if you want it to be a "safe bet"/investment..

if you mean the new guys, then only rule is "buy low, sell high".. how? if i knew this i would be making $$ all day long and not posting here.. LOL!

and with that said, don't invest in a baseball card.. work hard, save your money and if you can spare it, buy a card(s) of your favorites players and enjoy!

i forgot to mention.. should you want to make "investments" in cards, get them graded by reputable companies! it protects the card and states the condition by a professional.

Why? As you probably know, a '10' looking griffey rc (89 ud for reference) goes for aroung $50. a graded 10 griffey jr goes for well over $300..

but no Griffey, Ripken? Just to name a few.... IMO as well 1989 upper deck RC is one of the most significant Rookies of all time.

Here is my list:

Vet/Retired (My list is nothing sooner than 1982)

1. Miguel Cabrera
2. Ken Griffey Jr
3. Derek Jeter
4. Cal Ripken Jr
5. Barry Bonds (Like him or hate him) One of the top 5 players of all times
6. Frank Thomas
7. Albert Pujols
8. Robinson Cano
9. Joey Votto
10. Josh Hamilton

Young and up coming stars:

1. Mike Trout
2. Bryce Harper
3. Wil Myers
4. Manny Machado
5. Yasiel Puig
6. Clayton Kershaw
7. Matt Carpenter
8. Paul Goldschmidt
9. Chris Davis (Not so young but skys are still the limit for him)
10. Jose Fernandez

Notables: Buster Posey; Jean Segura;
This one is actually so darn close to the list I would have made that it is no longer worth the trouble of making my list. :-)

I know everyone has a different opinion but where are, in relation to the top 10, do Maddux, Chipper, Piazza, Ichiro, ARod (love him or hate him, one of the greatest ever) Randy Johnson, and Kirby Puckett fall? Have Cano, Hamilton and Votto done more to vault over them?

As far as the young guys, wheres Jason Heyward, Yu Darvish, and Adam Jones?

I know this is all subjective but its very difficult to establish a top 10 without setting some precedents first. I wish I was an AP writer
