1992 PRO LINE PROFILES Certified AUTOs
Hey guys and gals, wanted to ask a question to yall. I have noticed that the 1992 Pro Line Profiles certified auto cards are numbered and I have come across some that are numbered the same like two cards numbered 1/9. Is this common with the set? a typo on Pro Lines printing line.

Who Dat Nation, Who Dat Pride!!!!!!! I am all about New Orleans and collecting Saints memorabilia.

if memory serves me correctly, players had nine cards in the set, so each card for a player would be marked 1 of 9, 2 of 9, etc. it doesnt denote there are only 9 copies

I have some of the base of that set and a couple autos I think Jacoby is right and the same player would have 9 cards in numerical order in the set and the autos would be the same

Yep, Jacoby hit the nail on the head. The cards were catalog numbered x of 9 for each player. Hence each player has 9 different cards, of which each was printed a million times. However they were not serial numbered in any way. The autographs were done on all 9 variations, and were not serial numbered either. It is fun to put together a complete variation set of 9 autos for a particular player, though keep in mind the autographs are identical to the base cards with the exception of a embossed stamping done to the autographed cards. So the cards are easily faked, and there are also plenty of in person autos done on these cards, so be careful when buying them (as if it doesn't have the embossed stamp it definitely wasn't pack pulled, and even if it has the stamp be careful to inspect the stamp to make sure it is the correct one).
Collecting John Stockton, Karl Malone, Ivan Rodriguez, Gary Carter & UF player rookie year cards.  Plus Jedd Gyorko rookie and prospect cards.

They are not the same. The set numbering is omitted on the autograph versions. The x of 9 is there, but the overall number in the set was not there (exception: Art Monk) in addition to the embossed stamp. Becket set information can be useful although they don't seem to add set information to newer releases.

Kinda semi-off topic, but in today's world of "aw maaaan, I got another Michael Egnew auto," it's funny to look back at these Pro Line sets and remember that pulling an autograph of anybody used to be a once-in-a-lifetime amazing lottery-winning experience. So if you ended up with a Pro Line Portraits auto of Robert Awalt or Alvin Walton or whoever, you were all "OH MY GOD ROBERT AWALT" and it was the talk of the shop for weeks.
Although now that I look at it in the OPG, taking into consideration how many star players have retroactively become scrubs by the passage of time and the fact that collectors still cared about players outside of skill positions back then, those sets probably had a way better star/scrub autograph ratio than anything coming out today.
I think I've finally lost interest.

Thanks for the correction. I never really noticed that the number was missing, but sure enough when I checked the ones I have there is no card number (on the 1991 or 1992 versions, other than the x of 9 numbering on the 1992 Profiles cards).
