Stupid rookie question

Stupid rookie question
I'm just learning about this site, and trading online in general. I've seen a phrase a few times that doesn't make sense to me. It usually goes something like this:

"I'm looking to trade down, but I would like the trade to be at least a little in my favor"

I've seen this a few times, and I just don't understand it. If you're trading down, how would the trade work in your favor?

Sorry to be stupid, but I just don't get it.

RE: Stupid rookie question
It's referring to trading a $60 card for a couple smaller value cards I.e. trade a cole chrome auto for 3 lower end base autos that total $70.

RE: Stupid rookie question
Say you have a $100 card. Looking to trade down would mean you are looking for a few lower value cards for your 1 higher value card, but how it usually works around here is if you are trying to trade a few lower cards for someone's higher value card they want you to trade at least a little in their favor. So for a $100 BV card people would probably want around $110-$120 in Beckett Value in return
