Last time I went through the Rockies at this time of year was fine in most spots but a little iffy in a few sections. The was the south route through Banff to Calgary. I figured being farther north it would be works, but I've never done that drive. All I know is there's still snow in the coast mountains and they're lower.

off topic, but ... heading north...

rippinwax pretty much nailed it. I was in Fairmount Hot Springs (20 min South) in January for my boy's hockey tournament. The drive is amazing, take your time and soak in the sights. Be prepared to see wildlife, hit or miss though (no pun intended!). Have the cameras ready and be prepared to stop. Watch your speed as well, plenty of taxmen (cops) ready to take your money.
BC is expensive, so be careful what you get at the resorts. Get into the towns to get groceries and booze. Enjoy the trip. PS: Calgary is awesome too, great zoo, lots of sites.
Thanks for the comments, this is great info. Starting to think about what to bring, etc., especially since the Caps so graciously ushered the Rangers on to the second round of the playoffs....
Building sets, and collecting Alex Ovechkin, Calle Johansson,
Craig Laughlin and Braden Holtby
Not as graciously as my Canucks!
They served the Sharks drinks! |
