All the talk of people sending cards back to be regraded in various threads makes me wonder one thing: how do you get a card out of a PSA or Beckett slab without any risk of damaging the card? Are the cards sent back to the grading company in the original slab? Wouldn't this influence the grading of the card?

If I were to submit a card for regrading I would crack the case. The PSA case is very easy to crack, I cracked one a couple weeks back with pliers and flat head screwdriver in a mater of seconds.
I also cracked a BGS case but that one required a little more time & effort. =)
There are a few videos on You Tube that show someone cracking a PSA or BGS case.

Youtube it and you will find lots of video tutorials that show you how to crack the slabs open. It's fairly easy.
