Graded Card Display Project (Christmas Present) UPDATED 12/23
Hola

So you may remember I was asking questions about a graded card display frame. I wanted to make one for my brother for his Todd Frazier cards

He has the BGS version of
2007 BDPP auto base, xfractor, blue, gold, and orange

I wanted to display these five cards. I HAVE NEVER MADE ANY WOODWORKING BEFORE AT ALL. I borrowed some tools and figured I would try it out.

I went to the hardware store and got a 1x8x24 piece of pine.

I then started drilling out with a Router? with a 3/16 bit...

As you can see the BGS card fits in nicely in the slot

Today I just drilled out the rest of the frame for the 5 slots

So... as you can see this is my first project and it is not perfect what so ever.. however I am impressed with myself lol. As I go on, I think I'm going to get a thin black felt to lay in the card backs so it doesnt scratch the case. I also am going to stain it and then use a polyurethane over it. Once this is done, I plan on taking a thin sheet of Plexiglass and screwing it with probably brass screws.

I will update this as I update the frame.

UPDATE***

2 layers of natural stain

Questions? comments? (please be gentle as this is my first project haha)

It looks great so far. Do you have the 5 cards? If not, then you'll probably want to wait on the plexiglass step.

But it's looking great IMO.

oops i meant 6 haha. He has 4 of the 6 graded already. My sister in law is going to "steal" the cards from him and give them to me so I can load them in. Then when he gets the others we can screw them out and screw back in the plexiglass.

Thanks for the respone

I don't recall if the Graded holders are UV protected and even if they are you may want to try and find some plexiglass that is UV Reflective since they will all be on display. Can never have to much protection to make sure things don't fade.

Might want to fashion some sort of overlay, plexiglass or w/e that is black / dark colored in order to square them up. Really, really cool piece, i can only imagine how hard that was to do with a router.

see this is the plexiglass I plan on getting... The UV protection is what I'm trying to figure out as I do not want the cards to fade or the autos for that matter

Maybe I can put a piece of light tint over the plexiglass

For the plexiglass or acrylic you may want to try http://www.mscdirect.com or http://www.mcmaster.com/ and Http://www.grainger.com may have something as well.

The sheets will all be likely bigger than you need

Looks good to me. Are you going to stain the wood or not?

Great Job! Pretty ambitious attempt for a first ever project (beats a birdhouse in shop class) and it is looking great. Can't wait to see the final product.
