So just the oposite question maybe....WHY THE GOLD FOIL VERSION!
Just did a quick search for the 1994 Gold Signatures, and I didn't see any of the Series II Gold Foils....need to search a bit more...
Yup...I agree...way to early/late to be thinking right now!
The 94-95 Collector's Choice Gold Signature set is one I'm trying to complete. I already have a complete set of series one and I'm only missing 10 cards from series two. They all have the gold foil and I always thought that only the US cards had the gold foil and any of the European ones didn't. In trades I always want to make sure that I only get the ones with the gold foil as I have received some without in the past, and the senders always mentioned that they were US cards. So maybe there were 2 different versions in US boxes too...

Could it be a difference between retail and hobby boxes?

Ah-Ha! You're the one that I was hoping would respond!
And there's my second thought...
Either way, I think that there is a sub-set of the Series II Gold-Signatures that need to be added to the OPG/Checklists...now just have to figure out what is what with them. European or hobby/retail. Seems like there is an awful lot on eBay that are just the regular non-foil gold signatures. I think I only saw a Jason Kidd that was series II high foil (plus the regular gold). So I'm wondering too if there might have been an early series printing or Factory Set maybe. Do I remember something about a 10-gold cards in factory set...or maybe that was Topps.

I havea a feeling there's an unrecognized australiasian version of this set available. I never saw it here myself, but I think it was mainly distributed through New Zealand. That might explain the non-foil with only english text.

Seriously...an AUS/NZ version...well, wouldn't put it past UD to do something like that!

About the only difference would be spelling on certain words. Thinking back, there was an australiasian edition that was no different from the US edition - besides the spelling. It's like with 1994-95 Hoops - there was an extra subset in series 2 with gold border that was only released in australiasian packs. Fro 1995-96 Topps put out an australiasian edition for both series of the base set - the only difference being that the Australiasian packs had the following inserts - Foreign Legion (series 1) and World Stars(series 2).

I don't feel like digging the base us card out of my boxes (it's buried deep beneath four other boxes!), but it comes down to certain words. For example - American's have flavor, australians (and therefore all british subjects/colonies) spell it flavour. Or your might take specialization (US) which is spelt specialisation (BC - british commonwealth). small things like that. If you're familiar with the slight differences between american and canadian, they're the same with all british commonwealth's.

lol. I majored in professional writing, so I can sometimes be a bit longwinded and thus confusing.
