Patrick Roy Rookie
Hi,
I am new to the site and have two Patrick Roy rookies. When I pull up the serial number on the one it says 86-87 and Patrick Roy RC! underneath. However, when I pull the other one up it says 86-87 but only says Patrick Roy??? It's the same card BUT I'm not sure why it doesn't say RC beside it?? Is it cause It was done in 2004? or is it not real?? Any info on this would be amazing. Thanks

1986-87 is the only true RC year for Roy. The one is 2004 is a reprint of the the card, it's a real card just not a real RC. In 1986-87 they made 2 cards for his RC, a Topps and a O-Pee-Chee version. Both cards look identical but they have different brand names on them.

Is it the Kraft one? Kraft used to include hockey cards as a bonus with their Mac and Cheese. The 1986-87 set includes a Patrick Roy card but I don't think Beckett considers oddball cards like that as true rookies.

Almost identical. The O-Pee-Chee version is bilingual while the Topps version is english only. And the Topps cards usually are a bit darker, especially on the back.
It's not too clear but I think the card was graded in 2004, not printed but he'll have to specify.
Looking for: Patrick Roy, 80s OPC, 72/73 OPC

If you are not Hungarian, then what I am saying is that photos would help a lot. If it is not the original 1986-87 card from either Topps or OPC, then the card will nt have the RC designation. There were many reprints of the card since his rookie year, particularly in 1992 (OPC) and 2003 (Stadium Club, Chrome, etc.), not to mention the countless forgeries out there.

From the angle it is one it would appear to be a fake.
Not always but a 99% of the ones I have see of the OPC version all have a black dot in the border:
Real:
Fake:
Your only real way to tell would be to have it graded/authenticated.
Hope that helps.
