Should These Players be in HOF

RE: Should These Players be in HOF
Sheff and Giambi..I would say No

McGwire...was really one dimensional and only has the HRs going for him, so I say No..

Everyone else..I would put them in...I am tired of all the steroid talk already..we all know it was going on and running out of control...it is a chapter of baseball history whether we like it or not..these guys were still the best of the best and playing against who knows how many other players who were using and still weren't as good...

RE: Should These Players be in HOF
Mark Mcwgire 583 Hrs 4x HR champ

Rafael Palmeiro 500 hr club/ 3000 hit Club

Barry Bonds All time Hr King, Season Hr record 7x MVP

Roger Clemens 7x Cy young 354 Wins

Alex Rodriguez 600 Hr Club 3x MVP

Sammy Sosa 600 Hr's 1x MVP

Manny Ramirez 555 Hr's

Juiced pitchers to Juiced batters is a wash to me. This problem is way lager than just those guys that have been caught or outted. If you want to astrick them with "steriod era" or "positive test" but these guys were the pinacle of the game for a number of years.
Looking for autos of these players as well as established stars and superstars.

I would love nothing better than a complete turn around and him to be playing like he did in 05, 06, 07, and 08 but I am trying to be realistic. I really believe he is finished. It's bone on bone in both knees from what I was hearing yesterday. Mattingly was by far my favorite player EVER but I believe Utley takes the same route and retires early. BTW, I still hate the Mariners for beating the Yankees in 1995 because of Mattingly. When the Yankees won it in 1996 the 1st thing I thought of was Mattingly not playing one more year
I appreciate it that you are in deed being realistic it's just hard for me to think of Utley retiring in the next season or two because the guy is a fighter (played half a season with a tear in his hip, had sprained thumbs and fractured wrists) and he only really slowed down last year. I would think there's some way for him to stay in the game. You may be correct but as you were saying earlier you'd hate to see that happen to a great ball player and fan favorite. If it were possible I'd give him the cartlidge in my knees. I guess this season will say it all. I'd just like to see him get into the HOF because the guy is blue collared and works his ***** off and the HOF committee will hopefully look into that. Also same here on Mattingly as a baseball fan it's a complete shame and kills me he couldn't have been on the 1996 squad.
As far as another thing that was metioned I believe someone said baseball was dead until the roids came along and balls were flying out left and right which helped it to be popular again. This may be true but look at baseball now they're doing just fine with the people hitting home runs now. With the exception of Arod. Most Yankees fans I know don't like him and since him being on roids came out it didn't help. Most of these guys could've been in the HOF without roids but in my opinion they wanted something more like records or more importantly more money, bigger contracts, more endorsements etc. This is a bit off topic but I really think baseball needs a salary cap like other sports and I understand that may sound dumb to most but you can literally buy an all star team. They're not guaranteed to win the World Series but chances are they'll still be great.

I obviously want to see my favorite player of all time be a HoF'er (Alex Rodriguez),but I can see the arguments against. Roids roids roids, haha.

BUT,he is close to 3,000 hits and close to 700 Homers(with injuries he may run out of gas before he can beat the record).

And also, winning cures all right?? Wink Maybe another ring, that he contributes heavily to winning, can help?

We shall see. I will forever be a fan and forever spend money on the dude, whether he makes it or not.

RE: Should These Players be in HOF
Giambi & Sheffield have NO chance of making it in, well maybe by the vets 50 years from now lol.. Of the rest of the list it could be all or none. Arod will be the litmus test. I feel the PED users will be shunned from the HOF till Arod is up for election. If Arod makes its in the others have a shot. Only reason I say Arod is because of that list he is really the only one to "somewhat" repair his reputation. If he can get the all time HR record maybe win another ring or two, it will only help his cause. IF they allow him in they cant use PEDS as an excuse for the others any longer. I think the reason the other players wont make it first is because most are dbags, caught again, or just played lame excuse (Big Mac). Only Big Mac could break this sooner if his coaching/attitude helps repair any of his rep with the voters. HOF isnt just stats. The voters gotta like you as a person. Its as much popularity as it is skill.

None of these guys were locks for the HOF before hand IMO. Bonds had 411 homeruns before he started using steroids in '99. Fred McGriff and Jeff Bagwell finished with more homeruns and had similar batting averages and their still waiting to get in.

crazy talk

bonds could have retired before taking steroids and been a no doubt mortal lock 1st ballot guy

the evidence shows he started to take steroids before the 1999 season

his numbers?

411 hrs
1200+ rbi's
400 stolen bases (400/400 guy...how many guys on that list? oh yea - none but him)
290 ba
411 obp
ops+ 164 (for measure: that would still be good for 11th of all-time)
3 mvp's, 2nd place another time (in a bogus loss to terry pendelton), top 5 in mvp voting 7 times
7 gold gloves
leader in WAR 7 times
top 5 in ops+ 9 times

http://www.baseball-reference.com/player...g_standard

Bonds, before steroids, was the best baseball player in the world, with no one that could argue that at the time besides maybe - maybe ken griffey

(sidenote: the 300/300 club, of which there are 6 members? 5 of them played at one time for the giants, dawson being the lone exception. bonds, his father and godfather are all on that list)
