Stupid question

Stupid question
I'm sorry for asking what I'm sure is a dumb question, but what do people mean when they say they collect "type cards?".
Collect Kirk Gibson (Tigers), Lou Whitaker, Alan Trammell, Jack Morris (Tigers), Lance Parrish (Tigers), Sparky Anderson (Tigers), Tom Brookens (Tigers), as well as earlier Tigers greats like Al Kaline, Norm Cash, Mickey Lolich, Willie Horton, etc.

Type cards are those as designated by Jefferson Burdick when he wrote his baseball catalog. He created the classifications of "R" (Candy & Gum), "T" (Tobacco), "E" (Caramel) and so on. Some type collectors go for one example of every designation in the book, some specialize in just one type.
Interested in EX-MT or better pre-'56 Cardinals, '53 Bowman Color & '74-'78 Topps.

RE: Stupid question
Ah, ok. Now that makes sense! I really appreciate your help. I keep reading about people collecting type cards, but I just wasn't sure what that meant. I have seen that catalog discussed in a forum, too. Thanks so much. Have a great week!
