I pulled out some of the notable rookie cards like 1982 Ripken, 1983 Gwynn, 1984 mat tingly, 1985 Mcgwiroid, Clemens, Puckett, 1986 Consecoid, 1989 griff, 1989 Johnson...the rest of my 1980s, I sold off about 15000 cards for $400 to a seller at the weekly card show.

with how cheap they are I would think that those would be the best cards to get your son/daughter interested in the hobby with minimal risk of losing money.

I kinda like the idea of handing them out for Halloween.

RE: 80's-90's cards.
We were just talking about this very thing this past weekend.

A guy brought in a few boxes of 1988 and 1989 baseball cards. Well, first he had called and said he had vintage stuff and was looking to sell it.

So, he brought it in and that's what it.

He said he heard people just throwing them away and thought why not sell them for 5 cents each (that's what he said they were worth) and he'd use the money to pay bills, etc.

We told him we couldn't pay that amount. We told him, in fact, we wouldn't be able to buy any of them because they weren't worth anything.

We told him about over-production and then he said he would hold on to them because with so many people throwing thousands and thousands away at the time, they'd be worth more because before we know it, there aren't going to be many out there.

He was crazy for asking that much for his cards, but he did give us something to think about.

I bought a collection of about 100,000 cards, most of which came from 1986-1994 in all 4 sports.

A bunch were in sets, a few were missing the start cards like the Griffey RCs, the Sosa and Thomas RCs, etc. Anything that was complete, I kept complete. Anything that was far from completion, I pulled all the stars, Cowboys and Rangers, and put them in a box.

The rest of the cards went into numerous USPS Large Flat Rate Priority boxes and are still sitting in my house until I figure out what to do with them.

If people are giving away cards from this era, you can ship them to me. I have no problem storing these cards away for 20, 30, even 50 years because one thing is certain, they won't lose value over time.
