I do have a scan but when I upload it and click "insert into post" it doesn't work. Any pointers?

Use photobucket. Create a free account. Upload your .jpg images. Once they are in your photobucket, select and copy the IMG code under you picture, and paste it to your post. Very easy. Uploading pictures directly to this site is not very friendly.
