2011 Bowman Sterling Case Break & Contest Thread [contest closed]
#69

RE: 2011 Bowman Sterling Case Break & Contest Thread [contest closed]
Okay, I'm back and ready to bust those final three boxes. To recap, it has gone poorly so far. Very little color, no Harpers (not even non-auto base!), and definitely terrible return on my purchase.

Box #6 box topper: Ackley/Espinosa dual relic /196

Box #6, pack #1

Desmond Jennings RC base
Sonny Gray prospects base
Christopher Wallace prospects auto
Christopher Wallace prospects refractor auto /199
Chris Elder USA relic

Comments: Big Poppa pack. Unfortunately, it is likely my only parallel auto of the box, so I start things right where I left off.
Box #6, pack #2

Todd Frazier RC gold refractor /50
Miguel Sano prospects base
Sands/De La Rosa dual USA auto /225
Julio Teheran RC auto
Jemile Weeks RC auto
Zach Britton RC relic

Comments: Okay, it's nice to see some gold, but I whiff again on the subject. This is actually my best pack in a while, with the Weeks auto and the dual auto.
Box #6, pack #3

Dustin Ackley RC base
Manny Machado prospects refractor /199
Robert Stephenson prospects auto
Rubby De La Rosa RC auto
Hoby Milner USA relic

Comments: Nothing to say, nothing to show.

Box #6, pack #4

Michael Pineda RC base
Chris Archer prospects base
Dan Vogelbach prospects auto
Tyler Anderson prospects auto
Brandon Beachy RC relic

Comments: Beachy relic prevents this from being the worst pack of the break.

Box #6, pack #5

Trayvon Robinson RC base
Blake Snell prospects base
Cory Spangenberg prospects auto
Kyle Crick prospects auto
Mark Trumbo RC relic

Comments: It just gets worse.
Box #6, pack #6

Kyle Seager RC base
Jarrod Parker prospects base
Kolten Wong prospects auto
Danny Duffy RC auto
Erich Weiss USA relic

Comments: I'm glad to get the Wong auto, but it doesn't save me from what was a brutal box.

Box #6 grade: D-
Comments: As I suspected, Big Poppa robbed me of a chance to get a better parallel prospect auto. One gold was the only color, and it was a mediocre subject. This was a worse box than my last D- box.

Here are the "hits" from that box:

Box #7 box topper: Britton/Jones

Box #7, pack #1
Johnny Giavotella RC base
Brandon Martin prospect refractor /199
Garrett Gould prospect auto
Sean Gilmartin prospect auto
Danny Duffy RC relic

Comments: It's beginning to look like there's a real possibility that I won't pull a Harper of any kind. If that happens, the tiebreak goes to magneto2, who made the terrific prediction of 99 Dickey pitches in that game last week, just one off the correct total of 100. I can't really say I'm rooting for him, but I have to respect the awesomeness of the prediction.
Box #7, pack #2

Juan Nicasio RC base
Kevin Matthews prospect base
Starling Marte prospect auto
C. J. Cron prospect auto
Tyler Naquin USA relic

Comments: I like Marte, but no real love in this pack.
Box #7, pack #3

Julio Teheran RC refractor /199
Trevor Bauer prospects base
Dahl/Winker dual USA auto refractor /99
Zach Lee prospect auto
Brandon Martin prospect auto
Marcus Stroman USA relic

Comments: I like this dual auto.
Box #7, pack #4

Eric Hosmer RC base
Dellin Betances prospect base
Taylor Guerrieri prospect auto
Mike Moustakas RC auto EXCH
Ben Revere RC relic

Comments: Nice to see Hosmer, if only in a base card.
Box #7, pack #5

Jason Kipnis RC base
Wilmer Flores prospects base
Michael Pineda RC auto
Archie Bradley prospect auto refractor /199
Kevin Gausman USA relic

Comments: Nice prospect auto parallel. I think it's my best single pull since back in box #5 when I got the Rubby De La Rose gold auto. Ouch.
Box #7, pack #6

Salvador Perez RC base
Francisco Lindor prospects base
Jerry Sands RC auto
Joe Panik prospect auto
Nolan Fontana USA xfractor dual relic /199

Comments: Not as bad as some packs, but nothing worth showing.

Box #7 grade: D
Comments: Sadly, I believe this is my second best box. It had only one card worth $20 or more, and no colored parallels. I'm nearly finished with my break and no Harpers of any kind. I have to admit that breaking this product has been pretty demoralizing. Magneto2 is looking pretty good to win, but I have six packs left and four other contestants still with a chance of winning.
Here are the cards worth noting from box #7:
