How do you tell the difference for certain? For some sets, it extrememly difficult to know what you have. For example, 2010 Score.
But, with 2017 Classics, the non glossy look visibly different than the glossy.
2007 Topps is another example where it's hard to tell.

When you cannot easily tell, I always feel the company always wanted to put "one more version" out there for some reason but wouldn't invest the money in making it obviously different.
