My Grade! - s1020 - 08-20-2013

Its killing me!!! Today is the deadline for my Luck National Treasures patch auto rookie to be slabbed but still no word from beckett yet. I already know its a BGS 9 cause I had it raw graded at the National but I want to know the subs!!

Good luck! (but don't count on another 9). The raw card reviews are a lot more forgiving than actual grading. I hope you get it though! Check the pop reports because it will usually show up there first. And then you should receive a e mail and an update on your account online, by the end of the day.

good luck Wink

RE: My Grade! - s1020 - 08-21-2013

Finally got the email!! BGS 9 with 10 auto, subs: centering 8.5, corners 9, edges 9, and surface 9.5.

Now my question is what does it take to get a 9.5? Would 3-9s and 1-9.5 (averages out to 9.125) be a 9.5? Or do you need 2-9.5s and 2-9s? How does it work? Still extremely happy with the 9 though!!

Congrats on that great grade! I really need to get some stuff graded...

They average the 3 LOWEST subs to get the final grade. Congrats!

it isnt an average (and they do NOT average the 3 lowest grades and giantsfan suggests above). for the most part, a card will not grade more than a half grade higher than the lowest grade (there are some exceptions where a card will get a full point bump. ive seen a card with a 5 subgrade get bumped to a 6 when the other subgrades were in the 9.5's). different subgrades are weighed differently as well (set matters. some sets surface is weighed more, some centering, etc)

.

There is no "most part". That I know. There is a procedural calculation. Let's get clarification from BGS because that is who told me the grade is an average of the 3 lowest subs, not including auto grades. And that is also how it has always equated on all of my BGS cards. But who knows, maybe I'm wrong? I'd love to see that card your talking about.

also, see this thread where subgrades are discussed, including jeffv96masters

it is a calculation - actually, an algorithm. it isnt simple an average

Wow seems a lot more complicated than it should be, I'd like beckett to chime in as well so we can all have so clarification.
