Motown Madness/Contenders/Rookie Anthology/Famous Fabrics Inks Break - wickabee - 03-08-2013

So my boxes came...
No scans yet, which will tell you I hit HUGE on nothing. I'm not going to complain. Got some great cards but the player selection is less than stellar. Oh well.
I'll put up some pictures when I feel like it. Anyway, in order they were opened:

So, I learned that Bill Hay was, um, a Blackhawk. Did anyone know that? What a fun way to learn!

All will be available when I get it into my org. PM with any interest now if you like and comments are always welcome.

The Eakin private signings is cool, how much did that all cost you?
Would it be close to the same price of a Box of the cup or dominion?

Under $300

Some decent hits, but definitely not top-line production. Congrats!

Like I said, great cards but not so much with the players. Forgot to mention, my dad really likes the look of the 10-11 Contenders base and we're 2 short of the 1-100 set, #44 and #86 so I'm looking for those (I think it's Cam Ward and Todd Bertuzzi).

Curious how much more satisfied you would be waiting till you get that extra little
Bit of cash and buy a higher end product. Quality vs quantity, seems from your opening
Statement "I won't complain" that your not entirely satisfied.
I can't stress to collectors enough the value of patience in buying wax.
That combined with this years weak RC's, over loaded insert/auto are also diluting the market.
I see nothing of value from these sets? Actual market value/resale that is...

Wish ya better luck on your next break whichever way you go man,

Jv

Well, we're all hoping for a Nuge 1/1 right?
Honestly, this is about as high end as I've gone. I don't mind losing money on breaks, to me that's the cost of the fun. Am I ecstatic with these pulls? No. Am I satisfied? Sure. I don't think I missed out on any hits, just wish I'd got better players than Thornton, Gomez and Gagner. I don't think I've ever really complained about a break (though I had a right to with Zenith, yeesh) but I either buy low-end (Donruss, Score, etc) or mid-end when it goes on sale. I can say I'd be a lot more disappointed if I'd paid full bore for this stuff. That would have been into Cup/Dominion territory and I'd be kicking myself HARD. This was under $300 by $15-$20. Full price on everything, I'd guess you're up to $450ish. Only paid full on the Motown Madness.
I made a couple art sales on eBay and just decided I was gonna buy some boxes. My dad tacked on the Rookie Anthology. I picked the Contenders because it was:
A: $60
B: 10-11 (Hall, Eberle, Seguin, etc, etc)
The Famous Fabrics I look at no differently than those Children's Hospital lotteries where a ticket is $50 and you could win a house or nothing. I bought a ticket and lost. Oh well.
The Motown Madness I bought because, during the lockout I said I would actually give a new ITG product a shot. I really like the product, not crazy about my box is all.

In short am I disappointed? A little. No big name rookie, no low numbered superstar. Do I regret my purchase? Not at all. If I was gonna throw up my hands and give up after anything, it would have been that box of Zenith, but I got that on sale too. Basically, I'm not new to this, I bought what I wanted and was disappointed in the player selection, not the product. If people's collecting habits were different and everyone was after Bortuzzo and Tyrell, that would have been an amazing break. If Bill Hay had ever managed to gain a fan or two, that would have been huge.

Basically this is my game. Make back some money to buy more boxes while in the meantime adding to my PC (which can be darn near impossible to do through trade). A lot of times that means trading for more tradeable/sellable cards. I have never added money to my paypal account. I opened it, sold a bunch of YGs for $55 and it's been my rotating card budget ever since. My whole goal in doing this was being able to bust more than low-end retail. Since I've done this, I've managed to crack a few mid-level boxes, as well as actual boxes (not blasters as I was stuck with before) of lower end product, and buy my wife a couple of gifts, and it's costing me nothing. I've been working this system for about a year. I think I'm doing okayWink

Breaking all that wax must have been fun at least! I'm interested in the Bortuzzo and Neal if available.

I agree with you, It'd be nice if i could get my card habit to support itself. Sadly, It does not. I'm always adding to my paypal. Not too bad of a break, Im sure you could get some money back for some of the cards. I know the Motown maddness is on fire and that's a pretty sweet hasek, probably make some money on that little guy. Smile
I know the feeling about not over joyed but not disappointed. your words summed up my relationship with cards pretty well.
