OT: Brees Breaking Marino's Record ***Brees to Sproles!!!*** - mattfastiggi - 12-26-2011

One of the few well deserving guys to break Marino's record. Glad to see it happen at home for him too and can't wait to see it happen in about 20 mins.

Congrats Brees!

Its the only "main" record Marino held that will not be broken fair and square IMO. The rule changes have made passing so much easier nowadays that its ridiculous. 3 QBS are going to pass Marino this year!!! The record stood for 27 years and in one season 3 guys are going to pass it??? Im not a hater either. I love Brees and think he should get the MVP award this year but I cant help to believe if the league didnt make all these rule changes no one would've ever touched the record. Dan Marino was so damn good that year. I wish I was old enough to watch it in person and fully appreciate it like I do now watching Brees play.

Hats off to Brees but the record is a tad tainted IMO.

I understand the argument, and its just like the Hank Aaron record. Pitching and hitting and the homerun fences were a lot different back then when Aaron started and finalized his record. But times and the game do change.

I too wish I was old enough to see some of the other records that were generated in the past.

Sour Grapes?

Just kidding, I agree. Elway's career passer rating was something like 79. Now the top 15 in career passer rating are guys like Romo and pretty much all current players. The game has changed big time.

Also, big time backs like Barry Sanders and Walter Patyon or pretty much gone.

I guess the only thing that Marino fans could say is it took Peyton, Brady, Favre and Brees collectively to beat all of Marinos records lol. For one guy to hold all of them at once is insane!!!

Thanks to Sproles Marino can enjoy his record a little longer haha.
just a little longer...

I'd be happier for him if it didn't just cost me the fantasy championship... Wink
