selling on ebay... - jconstein - 09-20-2011

I was just wondering, how much does ebay charge you each sale you make? Im gonna put some cards up for sale but never sold in ebay before. Any tips would be great.

I dont know the exact percentage, but my guess with my experience is after paypal and ebay fees it is about 20% or so. someone probably has better info than that though.

Ebay is ~10% and paypal is like ~3%. ]

Those are rough numbers but thats the rule of thumb that I use. At first it looks like a turn off, but you can reach people all over the world instead of your local community. It's a fair price in my eyes although I wish it was lower.

very fair considering a normal auction house takes about 20%, and like you said, you have a wider audience.

Also know that the percentage ebay takes from you also applies to your s/h charge, as little sense as that makes.

I think Ebay takes whatever they want at random ha ha I notice how much they take from me seems to bounce around quite a bit. And then Paypal double dips.

That is to keep people from getting around paying fees on what is sold. Say there is a $60 box of cards that you want and someone is selling that box for $20 buyout but has $40 for S/H, if they would only pay fees on the sale amount eBay would lose a lot of money. The buyer would still pay $60, but eBay would only be taking a percentage of the $20 if they didnt include the shipping charges.

Selling as a regular auction the end fee is 9%, Paypal is 2.9% +.30 cents and a 9% fee on the s/h.

Actually I think it's 11% for auctions and 13% for fixed price. At least they aren't charging insertion fees or Buy It Now fees right now, at least on the first 50 auctions.
