2006 UD Ovation 2 Box Break - dlcarst - 07-16-2011

I Best Offered a 2 box lot of 2006 Upper Deck Ovation for 50 bucks including shipping. I thought that was a pretty sweet deal for a fairly premium product. I really like (not quite love) the set design, and though I havent gone through yet to see how much of the base set I completed, I didn't seem to get too many dupes. It just frustrates me that there's only 1 rookie per box. I can't afford to buy all the rookies and don't have enough good stuff to trade for them even if I found people who had them. So I may just complete the regular set but its better than nothing. Some good rookies too in this set. Anyway, I scanned the inserts & hits:

Not a whole lot of difference between the inserts. Center Stage looks pretty darn cool, though, and you can't go wrong with Griffey.

Rolen was the first one pulled. As a Cardinals fan, it's always awesome to pull a good card of my team. Even if it's just a dime-a-dozen jersey card. Matsui's not a bad gold to pull, though in 2006 it was better. Zimmerman's pretty nice as well, and I could do worse than Michael Young for an auto.

Box 2 Inserts:

As I said love the Center Stage design. I might try to piece that set together. Some obscure names in the other inserts...But gotta love Pedro.

Can't go wrong with Jeter. I'm no Yank fan in fact I'm a hater but Jeter's pretty classy, also good trade bait. Kubel, not so much. Crawford's a good jersey pull. However the letdown of the break was the Shelton auto. Who the heck is that? Looking him up, he pretty much played 2 full seasons, thats it. I have a habit of pulling Tigers. Its nice when its Verlander, but this is certainly no Verlander. Anyways, it was a very fun, relatively cheap break. I'm thinking about buying another 2 box lot if I can't find the cards I need to complete the set. We'll see.

Nice Break! Can't beat $25 a box. I'd rather open up stuff from 2000 to 2006 then pay $100+ a box for some stuff today. I always liked the Ovation sets through the years. They always had a unique look and style. Too bad you don't get more than 1 rookie per box though
