To Grade or Not to Grade...

To Grade or Not to Grade...
Just pulled a Stan Lee Auto card from 2011 Allen & Ginter - 3 exist that are BGS Grade 9 but there isn't a single 9.5. Should I take the easy $ that they're going for on ebay or should I invest the $30 to try to turn it into a 1 of 1?

My concern is that a collector for this card may appreciate the 1 of 1 BGS grade as much, so not sure it really enhances the value, even if I do get a 9.5.

Start an auction at $.99 and let it ride. The $$$ you'd put into getting it graded wouldn't be cost effective and would not turn it into a 1/1, regardless of the grade. On a related note, nice pull!

I collect 1969 Mets memorabilia and 1960 Topps baseball, nothing else.

Thanks!

While I realize it isn't necessarily a 1 of 1 card, I always figured that a 1/1 card grade-wise (in the right direction of course) added value. Or am I just being stupid? Theoretically, wouldn't a card like this graded as a 9.5 be more valuable if it were the only one compared to those graded as a 9?

There are those set collectors who prefer a raw card over a graded card. IMHO, this is that type of card. The only benefit I see to grading it would be to protect/preserve it. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do!

Very good point - I'm going to put it up on ebay this week then! Thanks for the insight!
