I'm trying to make my collection smaller, etc. and am sorting players alphabetically. I've already done a pre-1995 box. And I'm working on a 95-2000 box. I'm just curious who you guys would sort for 2000-present.

There are obvious guys like Pujols, Rodriguez, Jeter, etc. But who are some of the other stars, semistars I should keep.

Here's an example of some non superstars and semistars I came up with:
Hanley Ramirez, Cole Hamels, Prince Fielder, Tim Lincecum, Matt Kemp, Ryan Zimmerman, Johan Santana.

But who are some of the other guys?

Just give me a list of who you'd sort and I'll compile all the lists and come up with one. Mainly just looking for some advice on who to keep and who to move to the commons boxes. I'm also doing a football thread asking for advice, so feel free to pitch in over there as well.

Again, its from 2000-present.

I want to be where I can get a trade offer, go right to the box of the said player/team and pull those cards and not have to hunt for days for them.

Best bet, go to that tab at the top of the baseball boards and see who everyone collects. If someone collects them then you should save them as bait, otherwise they may be best in the common box. Obviously keep prospects and RC cards as well.

It's a catch 22 and I am in the same situation. I currently have a 10x10 storage unit that has mostly commons, unopened stuff and some other stuff I don't really need. My goal in 2012 is to go through the boxes since I haven't gone through them in a few years. I'm currently paying $150 a month for the storage so if I can get rid of the unit, that will be more money to spend on cards.

I'm talking at least (200) 3200 count boxes so it isn't like I am going to get rid of them anytime soon unless I sell them for $5 a box like you mentioned.

Ask yourself this....how organized do you want to be? Obviously the more stuff you keep and you're kinda defeating the purpose of getting rid of the stuff.

I'm doing the same thing as you and I initially started pulling only hall of famers and bigger stars like Chipper, Maddux, Thomas, Henderson, etc.

As guys get inducted into the hall of fame, I have not gone back through the boxes in a while so some marginal stars like Alomar, Dawson, Blyleven, Sutter, etc that were recently inducted were never pulled. Eventually I am going to go back through the boxes and pull these types of players. You'll be surprised because sometimes I do get trade offers for guys like Goose Gossage, Eckersley, Fingers, etc but they are mostly from set builders or guys who collect hall of famers.

Guys on the fence for me are guys like Miguel Tejada, Scott Rolen, Jeff Kent, Omar Vizquel, Albert Belle, Jason Bay, Carlos Beltran, Eric Chavez, etc.

I recently started pulling guys like Bernie Williams, Larry Walker, Lance Berkman, Johnny Damon, Mike Mussina, etc.

Just remember, the more you pull, the more work you'll have to do to organize everything and the more space they will take up.

well of course you got like your stars like albert pujols howard texiera arod jeter cano granderson cj wilson johan santanna derek holland all your rcs and prospects hamilton kinsler young beltre cruz rolen is semi star maybe your best 3rd basemen in all of baseball though i mean hes reliable hes not gonna be your 25 hr 150 rbi guy but hes gonna be consistent although his cards dont sel lfor much alex gordons gonna be a star melky cabrera will not have another year like he did francouer you could add mccutcxhen kemp braun mauer morneau konerko rios wells longo those would be guys id keep.
