Products from last season in retrospect: UGLY

Products from last season in retrospect: UGLY
I just posted an article on my blog about last season's products, the draft and prospects going forward.

Until I started researching for this article I had no idea how ugly most of them actually were and how many products could have just as easily not been produced to water down the RC market. I hope this trend doesn't continue.

My blog post is HERE or click it in my sig.

Does everyone agree or what? Contenders got twice as ugly last year as the year before which I actually liked.

I guess the question is, without me going to your blog since I can't do that at work, by last year you mean 2010-11 as compared to 2009-10. Right? Smile

Right. I actually like a lot of the designs from 2009-10.

i believe the cards and rookie class were hands down better in the 09-10 season.

Yes, the rookie class was better in 2009-10, but I can't necessarily say the cards. However, most people might be prejudice because 2009-10 had Topps/Upper Deck product. Smile If I'm comparing simply Panini:

2009-10 Classics vs. 2010-11 Classics - DRAW with a little lean towards 2009-10.
2009-10 Contenders vs. 2010-11 Contenders Patches - 2009-10 Contenders
2009-10 Limited vs. 2010-11 Limited - DRAW
2009-10 Donruss Elite vs. 2010-11 Donruss - 2010-11 Donruss (not sure if that's a fair comparison)
2009-10 Rookies and Stars vs. 2010-11 Rookies and Stars - 2010-11 Rookies and Stars
2009-10 Prestige vs. 2010-11 Prestige - DRAW (I didn't like either of them)
2009-10 National Treasures vs. 2010-11 National Treasures - DRAW, this years look better, but there was a stronger rookie class in 2009-10.
2009-10 Timeless Treasures vs. 2010-11 Timeless Treasures - 2010-11 Timeless Treasures.
2009-10 Threads vs. 2010-11 Threads - DRAW (I didn't like either of them)
2009-10 Absolute Memorabili vs. 2010-11 Absolute Memorabilia - 2010-11 Absolute Memorabilia
2009-10 Adrenalyn XL vs 2010-11 Adrenalyn XL - 2010-11 Adrenalyn XL

2009-10 had Court Kings and Crown Royale and Studio which I haven't seen any of those from this year, if they've been made or plan to be made.

2010-11 has Panini Gold Standard and I can't wait to see that.

I'm not going to go over them all, but I think they're fairly even in my view. Was 2009-10 over saturated, yes. Was 2010-11 over saturated, yes. Hopefully next year is even better, and the year after that, and then if UD and Topps do come back, we all have a lot of choices. Smile

it seemed like there wasnt as many products from panini this year, havent looked and counted, so thats good. but panini has dropped the ball imo on redemptions and quality control. ive had to make 2 quality assurance claims from this years products, one of them hasnt even been addressed and i sent it in 6 months ago. and i would say last years timeless treasures was better because of the redemption issues alone, when you see a redemption in like 80% of the boxes, thats awful. i was a big advocate of paninis last year but i have been disappointed, i still think they give very good value in their products though.

I always hear people saying there were too many redemptions, which I believe, but after all the boxes I opened I have never gotten one. Not sure if I am lucky or unlucky because some redemptions I see are awesome and some are ok at best. I know its a little off topic, but kinda curious if Im the only one to never get a redemption. A guy that bought a box just before me last year pulled a redemption for a NBA Basketball autographed by Kobe Bryant and I think it was /24. I really thought that was great and hoped I could be that lucky one day.

how many boxes of this years timeless treasures have you opened? i have only opened 1 this year, and pulled a redemption. ive watched alot of timeless breaks and its overloaded with redemption, i watched a full case break and there was something like 12 redemptions.

You didn't like 09-10 Elite? I have always been a donruss elite fan. Over saturation is a fact of life for sports cards now. The design and overall interest seemed to dwindle this season compared to 09-10 even though the actual players in 10-11 rookie class were better.
