Crazy, maybe Lester will give the A's the edge now even though I thought they had it already. I wonder what it will do for chemistry though, they seemed to be a pretty close group of guys.
I oficially hate Oakland now and I have been a die hard fan since the early 80's.....they just constantly give away our best players......s***bags.....
I am a Braves fan, really don't care too much about the American League, but if I were an A's fan I would be really happy about this trade. The trade for Samardzija would bother me more, but honestly I think the people running the A's know what they're doing and are planning on winning it all this year and I don't think the players they've traded away will hurt them very much in the long run.
if oakland wins the world series, Gomes will be bleeping insufferable

red sox have two of the best outfield arms in baseball now though.
As a Yankee fan, I'm a little upset.... It's gonna be difficult to like Cespedes from this point forward. Sad
Pitching wins championships. Lester straight up for Cespedes looked like an edge to Oakland. They must of thrown Gomes in to make it more of an even trade.
I think the A's just locked it up!

Unless the phillies start winning.......lol

this was a need based trade. the red sox have no power bats in the outfield in the minors. none. they do have a bleepload of pitching. lester wasnt going to sign during the season - indeed, his agent never even gave an offer to the red sox. someone is going to be crazy and give him a 7 year deal, and i dont want any part of that mess

so they trade a guy who wasnt going to re-sign, and fill an organizational need. ben cherington did really well with this

of course, this could end up being another wily mo pena trade

And this is the reason why I will never collect oakland a's players again. Maybe I'll start a PC of a few retired players or something. Eckersley or Lansford most likely.

At least my 500+ different cespedes cards and 30 + autos should see a nice price hike to help me get started... Just sucks that both of my PC players got dealt.

I think this makes us even more of a front runner though. I was hoping that with kazmir/gray/samard/cespedes under control for next year too, that we had another year before the rebuild/disassemble.. 2014 or bust I guess.. As long as the rest of our lineup doesn't tank we will be good. I know that it is a different lineup without him though (even when he is slumping) and the numbers have clearly shown that.

As far as the sox. Have fun watching cespedes try and learn to field off the monster... The guy is definitely not a geometry expert. Should proved a lot of excitement as he tries to gun people down after his misplays though!
