Another point to the OP, one big difference between PSA and BGS is that PSA grades in whole numbers (1-10) and BGS has sub-grades (i.e. 7.5, 8.5, 9.5 ect.). This could add to the point that BGS grades tougher because their scale is much more detailed and strict.
I would have to agree with several other posts that for vintage the look of PSA combined with the fact that they are more favorable and would retain the most value. For modern cards I side with BGS, great look and are still get great value. Hope this helps.
