Post count is the only way to 'upgrade' member status. Not that anyone pays attention to it...

When the new site came up in 2008, all posts were wiped clean (not something that was planned to my knowledge) and everyone started back as a new member. However, when the latest change was done, Feb. 2011, all posts came over. "Member status" goes on post count.
