Sponsored by Coca-Cola, this 30-card standard-size set was released as a complete set at Super Bowl Card Show V, January 27-30, 1994 in Atlanta. The set was available to the first 10,000 fans at the redemption booth in exchange for ten wrappers from any 1993 NFL-licensed trading card packs. The fronts feature borderless color studio shots of NFL players posed in their uniforms. The players are also dressed in horror costumes and made up to look like "monsters." Three of the cards (10, 19, and 20) feature fanciful color paintings of the players instead of photos. The white back carries the player's name and "monstrous" nickname at the top, followed below by career highlights. The cards are numbered on the back. Television ads featuring Randall Cunningham helped promote this set. The actual in-store promotion consisted of two randomly selected cards included in specially marked multi-packs of Coca-Cola Classic, diet Coke, Caffeine-free diet Coke, and Sprite. An "instant win" scratch-off game piece inside the same multi-packs could entitle the collector to win various prizes, including a gold foil edition of the entire set. Also collectors could obtain a random group of five cards by sending in a proof-of-purchase from any specially marked two-liter bottle. Reportedly more than 100 million collector cards were available nationwide. The promotion ran from Sept. 19 until Halloween, or while supplies lasted. Although the cards carry a 1994 copyright line date, they are considered a 1993 issue. [Collapse]
