The 1966 American Oil All-Pro set featured 20 stamps, each measuring approximately 15/16" by 1 1/8". To participate in the contest, the consumer needed to acquire an 8 1/2" by 11" collection sheet from a participating American Oil dealer. This sheet is horizontally oriented and presents rules governing the contest as well as 20 slots in which to paste the stamps. The 20 slots are arranged in five rows in the shape of an inverted triangle (6, 5, 4, 3, and 2 stamps per row as one moves from top to bottom) with the prizes listed to the left of each row. The consumer also received envelopes from participating dealers that contained small sheets of three perforated player stamps each. Each 3-stamp sheet was numbered with a letter as noted below making some of the stamps known double prints. Each stamp features a color head shot with the player wearing his helmet. After separating the stamps, the consumer was instructed to paste them on the matching squares of the collection sheet. If all the stamps in a particular prize group row were collected, the consumer won that particular prize. Top prize for all six stamps in the top group was a 1967 Ford Mustang. The other prizes were $250, $25, $5, and $1 for five-, four-, three-, and two-stamp prize groups respectively. Prizes were to be redeemed within 15 days after the closing of the promotion, but no later than March 1, 1967 in any event. Complete three stamp panels carry a 50 percent premium. The stamps are blank backed and unnumbered, and have been checklisted below alphabetically. Wayne Walker and Tommy Nobis were required to win $1; Herb Adderley and Dave Parks and Lenny Moore were required to win $5; John Unitas and Dave Jones, Mick Tingelhoff, and Alex Karras were required to win $25; Dick Butkus and Charley Johnson, Gary Ballman, Frank Ryan, and Willie Davis were required to win $250; and Gary Collins and Tucker Frederickson, Pete Retzlaff, Sam Huff, Gale Sayers, and Bob Lilly were required to win the 1967 Mustang. The winner cards indicated below are not priced (and not considered necessary for a complete set) since each is thought to have been largely redeemed and very few sales have been reported on existing copies. A 3-stamp advertising strip (roughly 3 1/4" by 6 3/4") was also produced and listed below. [Collapse]
