The 1934 Diamond Matchbook set is the first of many issues from the company printed with colorful borders. Four border colors were used for this set: blue, green, red, and tan. Many players appear with three border color variations, while some only appear with one, two or four different border colors. We've noted below known border colors for each matchbook. It is thought that a complete checklist with all color variations is still unknown. A Tan colored Bronko Nagurski matchbook was recently discovered as was a Green Clarke Hinkle. There is no player position included nor picture frame border shown on the player photo. The text printing is in black ink and each cover measures approximately 1 1/2" by 4 1/2" when completely unfolded. The set is very similar in appearance to the 1935 issues, but can be distinguished by the single lined manufacturer's identification "The Diamond Match Co., N.Y.C." Complete covers with matches intact sometimes sell for as much as 1-1/2 ttimes the prices listed below. Although the covers are not numbered, we've assigned numbers alphabetically. Several covers are thought to be much more difficult to find; we've labeled those as SP below. [Collapse]
