Issued in four perforated five-card strips (the fifth card being the coupon card), these 16 standard-size cards were distributed at Safeway stores in the Bay Area. The white-bordered fronts display color action player photos with a team-color-coded inner border three quarters of the way down the left side and curving along the bottom of the picture. The player's name is printed in white script at the lower left with the team name appearing on a team-color-coded bar at the very bottom. The horizontal backs carry a close-up player photo on one side, with complete NBA statistics, biography, and career highlights on a beige panel on the other side. The cards are numbered on the back with a "GS" prefix. Reportedly there were 162 Safeway stores from Northern California and Nevada involved with the promotion which ran from Jan. 19 through Apr. 12. Shoppers were to obtain a coupon from the store's photo department and redeem it at the customer service window for their free cards. In addition, 8,000 four-card strips were handed out at Warrior games (Jan. 26, Feb 19, Mar. 15, and Apr. 14.) to promote the offer. It has been reported that of the 162 Safeway stores, 100 were given 1,000 of each strip, while the remaining stores recieved 785 of each strip. [Collapse]
