Originally intended as a 99-card premium signed version of the basic 2006 Greats of the Game 100-card issue, this set actually contains 106 cards due to unintentional variations on several cards. The variations were the cause of problems with the dissemination of the clear stickers that each athlete signed. This set was intended to feature standard signatures, bereft of any inscriptions or nicknames. Due to problems at the production stage, however, several cards had signed stickers with inscribed nicknames (of which were earmarked for a separate signature insert for this product entitled Nickname Greats) placed on them. Our staff has researched the varying quantities seen on the secondary market for these variations and that information is detailed in our checklist within parentheses at the end of the card descriptions. The players with signature variations are as follows: Jack Clark (50% standard, 50% w/Jack the Ripper inscription), Will Clark (60% standard, 40% w/Will the Thrill inscription), Dwight Evans (90% standard, 10% w/Dewey inscription), Ron Guidry (50% standard, 50% with Gator inscription), Tommy Herr (100% w/T-Bird inscription), Bill Madlock (35% standard, 65% w/Maddog inscription), Gary Matthews (100% w/Sarge inscription), Tim Raines (50% standard, 50% w/Rock inscription), Rusty Staub (20% standard, 80% w/Le Grand Orange inscription), Andre Thornton (100% w/Thunder inscription). In addition, though all of these cards lack serial-numbering, representatives at Upper Deck provided print run information by breaking the set into four tiers of scarcity. Tier 4 cards (tagged with a "T4" notation in our checklist) have announced print runs between 301-600 copies per, Tier 3 between 151-300 per, Tier 2 between 100-150 per and Tier 1 between 50-90 per. Furthermore, specific quantities for each Tier 1 card were announced and that information is also provided in our checklist. These signed inserts were seeded at a rate of 1:15 hobby and retail packs.
