This massive 770-card set lays claim to the most comprehensive selection of players for any product issued in 2005 with just over 950 athletes featured. The set is structured with veterans as 1-575, dual-player veterans 576-690, prospects 691-720, "First Year" minor leaguers 721-765 and checklists 766-770. Oddly enough, card 666 (a number feared by some as the sign of the devil) is a single player card featuring Red Sox closer Keith Foulke - indicating a serious dislike for the Red Sox by whomever at Topps was responsible for constructing the checklist. The set was issued within 10-card packs carrying an affordable SRP of $1.00. Each box contained 36 packs. The actual printing plates used to create each card (barring the checklists) were cut up and seeded into packs. Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow plates were produced, each labeled as a 1 of 1. In a move deemed about as popular as bad breath by most collectors, the plates for the card backs were incorporated alongside the far more popular card fronts - harkening back to the card back plates issued eight years earlier in forgettable products such as New Pinnacle. Though these plates are too scarce to price for individual stars, most common fronts can be had between $15-$40 per and back between $8-$25 per. [Collapse]
