In addition, 20 hand serial numbered versions of this card personally signed by Schmidt himself were also randomly seeded into packs. A Ken Griffey Jr. Sample card was distributed to dealers and hobby media several weeks prior to the product's national release. Unlike most Upper Deck promotional cards, this card does not have the word "SAMPLE" pasted across the back of the card. The card, however, is numbered "S3".
