This 12-card set was sponsored by the USDA Forest Service in conjunction with other federal agencies. The standard-size cards have on their fronts black and white photos of outstanding players (except for legendary coach Rod Dedeaux) from past USC baseball teams who went on to play in the major Leagues. The team name and player information appear in maroon stripes above and below the picture. A yellow stripe on the bottom and right side of the picture serve as a shadow border. School and Smokey logos superimposed on the picture round out the card face. In black lettering on white, each back has career summary and a fire prevention cartoon starring Smokey. The cards are unnumbered and checklisted below in alphabetical order. The set was also issued as a an uncut sheet, with three rows of four cards each. The card sets were given away to the first 1,000 fans who attended any game during a series between USC and Stanford, February 23-25, at Dedeaux Field. The key card in this set is of Mark McGwire, who would set the single-season Home Run record during the summer of 1998. [Collapse]
