Set Information

There are 20 coins in the 1959 Armour set, 10 from each league. Each coin measures 1 1/2" in diameter. There are 20 coins in the 1959 Armour set, 10 from each league. Each coin measures 1 1/2" in diameter. In contrast to the 1955 set produced by this company, the raised profiles are not as finely detailed and the lettering is larger. In addition, the team nickname (for example, "Redlegs") is listed below the profile and the reverse does not record birth date and place or batting and throwing preferences. The coins are not numbered and are found in colors of dark and pale blue, dark and pale green, orange, red, pale yellow, pink and gray. These coins were inserted one per specially marked Armour Hot Dog packages. A collector could mail in two backboards for 10 assorted coins. It is believed that the same 10 coins were received each time. If true, this would verify the theory that some dealers believe about short printed coins. Those presumed to be shorter printed are: Antonelli, Ashburn, Banks, Crandall, Fox, Jensen, Kuenn, Podres, Thomas and Vernon. [Collapse]
