This 20-card set of 1916 Tango Brand Eggs Baseball cards was issued by the L. Frank Company in New Orleans as a promotion to increase egg sales. Less than 500 examples are known to exist, with some of the cards having quantities of less than 10 copies found. The cards have a glazed finish, a process used in several other sets of this vintage (E106, D303, T213 and T216). The fronts display a player color photo in a mix of poses (portrait, throwing, fielding, and batting). The player's name, position, and team are printed below the photo. Some of the cards are off center and poorly cut. The backs carry promotional information for the Tango Brand Eggs. The cards do not carry the Federal League designation since the league dissolved in 1915 and players moved back to the National and American League teams. One irregularity is the fact that Demmitt, Dooin, Jacklitsch, and Tinker of the E106 set appear as cards of Meyer, Morgan, Meyer, and Weaver in the Tango Brand Egg set. The set can be dated 1916, as "Germany" Schaefer appears in the set as a Brooklyn player, and prior to that year he played for Neward of the Federal League. During the 1916 season he was sold to the New York Americans, making that the only year he played for Brooklyn. The cards are unnumbered and checklisted below alphabetically. [Collapse]
