Want to Own a Game-Used Stephen Curry Mouth Guard?

When it comes to basketball, traditional game-used memorabilia normally focuses on jerseys and other pieces of clothing. Hoops doesn’t require a lot of gear. But there is a signature piece of gear you see every time Stephen Curry steps on the court that isn’t a jersey, pair of sneakers or shorts. And one is coming up for sale this summer. SCP Auctions has a game-used Stephen Curry mouth guard that is going to be part of an online auction in August.
The mouth guard was used during the 2015-16 season and was rescued from the floor by the consignor following a road game.
“The mouth guard and its customized case was picked up off the floor by our consignor after a Warriors road game where it was left courtside and appeared to have been abandoned,” said Dan Imler, SCP Auctions Vice President.
As per SCP company policy, the consignor’s identity has been kept anonymous.
There’s no doubt who the mouth guard belonged to. It has Curry’s name and number plus the Golden State Warriors logo printed on it.
“The item’s authenticity is supported by the location where it was found as well as the physical attributes of the mouth guard itself and its customized case which includes the name ‘CURRY’ stamped on the front,” said Imler.
Curry can often be seen chewing on his mouth guard and re-positioning it between plays.
SCP estimates that the Stephen Curry mouth guard could sell for $5,000 to $7,500, perhaps more if the Warriors emerge victorious against the Cleveland Cavaliers and repeat as NBA Champions.
This isn’t the first mouth piece SCP has sold. In 2013, a mouth guard worn by Muhammad Ali in his final fight in 1981 against Trevor Berbick went for $6,700. Jumping back to 1989, Sotheby’s sold a pair of Ty Cobb’s dentures that were in the Barry Halper Collection for $7,475.
The mouth guard is part of SCP’s Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame online auction, which opens on August 3.

I wonder how much the one he threw at the fan tonight would go for.
