Topps bringing hand-stamped cards back to football

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Beckett Football Editor

Topps introduced oversized hand-stamped cards in 2012 Topps Triple Threads.

These cards are coming back this season with a new design.

Topps released a preview image of wide receiver Tavon Austin’s card. The cards look drastically different from last year’s design.

The new hand-stamped cards will be in 2013 Triple Threads. These cards will feature players that will be at the 2013 NFL Players’ Association Rookie Premiere.

Last year, Tops featured Andrew Luck, Brandon Weeden, Justin Blackmon, Michael Floyd, Ryan Tannehill, Trent Richardson and Robert Griffin III on the cards.

There are several of these cards listed on eBay right now.

Interesting…my nephew has one of these of Cal Ripken Jr from baseball and it’s actually pretty cool. Nice addition to the football lineup!

These are definitely a nice addition by Topps. Back in 2000 Fleer Showcase had the Touch Football cards which were nice when you got a piece of painted football but were a let down when you didn’t (as most of the football was not touched). The use of an entire hand print on a single card is really nice, and reminds me of the big prints Upper Deck Authenticated does, except being able to pull something like this from a pack is even more awesome. Great job Topps!
