Topps announces World Baseball Classic eTopps cards
The World Baseball Classic is under way and Topps announced on Monday its first offerings of WBC cards via eTopps.
Four players — Japan’s Yu Darvish, the United States’ David Wright, Korea’s Jin Young Lee and Cuba’s Frederich Cepeda — will be offered this week.
Each card is $5, except for the highly touted Japanese pro pitcher, who is $7. Darvish is a 22-year-old who has gone 48-19 with a 2.33 ERA in four seasons with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters.
A maximum of 999 cards will be made for Wright and Darvish, while a maximum of 749 cards will be made for the others.
The set will consist of 12 cards and those who complete it (a set in their portfolio on March 30) will receive a commemorative patch card of the winning country.
There will be a limited IPO on march 23, the day of the WBC Finals and the final batch of WBC cards will be offered during a four-hour offering. They will be allocated immediately after the 5 p.m. close.
Collectors who request delivery of their complete set can also receive a box and matching serial numbers for a $9.99 fee.
