By Chris Olds | Beckett Basketball Editor

With some new basketball card lines, there has been some new interest in different cards — and in the case of 2012-13 Panini Prizm its Prizm parallels have been scorching.

This Kobe Bryant? It sold for $1,546 on eBay Thursday without a single piece of memorabilia or an autograph in sight.

That got us thinking … What is the key to a good NBA product these days?

We want to know, for the next issue of Beckett Basketball and its Your Turn page, what you think is the key to success with an NBA product.

Perhaps it’s the type of product or maybe it’s the player selection? Maybe it’s autographs? Maybe it’s scarcity? Or, perhaps it’s something else. We want to know what you think is most important.

Let us know in the comments below — along with your name and location — and a selection of the best responses will appear in the next issue.

Give or take an anomaly here and there, did you know that there are a mere 148,003 Rookie Cards cataloged on Beckett.com alone?

We’re sure you did, and that number will stand for a whole day or two until the next new product arrives — but that’s not what we’re here for today. We’re here to ask you a simple question for the upcoming Rookies Issue of Beckett Sports Card Monthly:

If you could only own a single Rookie Card — just one — what would it be?

Tell us in the comments below and be sure to include your name and location. We’ll run a selection of the best replies in the issue.

Mike Trout‘s all-around dominance this season has made a mockery of the can’t-miss cardboard around him and, by season’s end he just might have the American League Rookie of the Year and American League MVP awards in his grasp.

For the next issue of Beckett Baseball and as the season winds down, we simply want to know … Who are your 2012 hobby award-winners?

We want to know who your Rookie of the Year, MVP and Cy Young winners are … on cardboard. (Tell us other players in other areas if you feel they stand out, too.)

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Beckett Hockey Editor

In an upcoming issue of Beckett Hockey, we’re looking at legends of the game.

All the notables will be there with Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr.

However, there are few things we want to know from you – the collector.

Hockey fans are passionate about their favorite sport, and collectors are the same way about cards. We want to hear from you. Who are your legends in the making?

Are there players you always put to the side whenever you pull them from a pack? Or do you scour the Internet looking for cards of a certain player?

Of the current players, who do you think is a future legend?

Answer the following questions … we’ll run a selection of the most-interesting answers in the issue.

1. Name, where from and your favorite hockey team?

2. Who are some of your favorite players?

3. If you had to pick one player you think will be a future legend, who would it be and why?

4. Is there one card that you feel will be the iconic card for that particular player?

Please feel free to add more in your comments. Also, feel free to add links to photos of your collection.

It’s been quite a year in baseball with plenty of surprises, emerging stars, new arrivals and more. On cardboard, it seems to be just as frenetic but we feel like there might be something missing.

We want to know … What do you miss in the hobby?

Maybe it’s the bubble gum, or maybe it’s the idea of something for nothing? Maybe it’s the challenge of building a set in packs or maybe it’s something else? Simply put, we want to hear what you feel is lacking in the hobby and want to see it return.

Tell us in the comments below. Please include your name and location with your comment. We’ll run a selection of the best answers in the next issue of Beckett Baseball.

We’re focusing on goalies for the upcoming issue of Beckett Hockey and we have a few opportunities for collector participation.

Here’s how you can weigh in and how you might just get to see your name in print:

Make fun of your collection
This John Davidson card (1978-79 Topps #211) is only worth about 60 cents, according to the Beckett OPG. But come on, it’s priceless in so many ways. Visit the Beckett Facebook page and leave a comment with your comedic caption. We’ll run the most LOL-worthy captions in the upcoming issue.

Additionally, feel free to dig through your binders and post your favorite funny goalie cards with commentary on this thread.

Show off your goalie SuperCollector stash
Shoot us an email to readersrock@beckett.com or brag on the hockey forums about your massive netminder collection. Be sure to include your name, your age, where you’re from, a few key numbers (rookie cards, inserts, memorabilia, etc.), a brief narrative describing your goalie obsession, and a photo of you standing among your crease-dedicated carboard glory.

Even if you don’t have a Super Collection, you can still get your name in the magazine by posting or sending us a photo of your best goalie pieces.

The great debate: Who is the all-time greatest hobby goalie?
Put career statistics aside for a moment—or not. We’re looking for collectors to consider which goalie has had the greatest impact on the hobby. Comment below with your nominee and don’t be afraid to ruffle a few feathers.

Masked man of the moment: Who is the all-time greatest goalie right now?
Do we default to Jonathan Quick because he’s been a beast during the playoffs? Or is it a veteran who didn’t make a save during this year’s Stanley Cup chase? Tell us who’s king of the crease right now.

Got it? Good. Let the masked-men mania commence.

How has the Internet changed your hobby?

It’s a bit of a loaded question because there are countless possible answers — it might be better to ask whether there are ways it hasn’t changed collecting.

Better yet, though, we figured we’d just ask you — because there just might be many different answers for many different people. Dealers might sound different than collectors. Manufacturers might have differing answers, too. You’re all out there.

For the next issue of Beckett Sports Card Monthly, we’re going to explore some of the ways that the Internet has transformed collecting, the industry, the market. For one part of the issue, we’re planning to showcase your answers on this wide-ranging topic. Leave your comments — with a name and location — below and we’ll showcase the most notable ones in the magazine.

Also, be sure to take our polls asking you about the Internet’s influence after the jump.

Imagine a world where you could only own a single copy of a single baseball card — just one and that’s your entire collection.

Which one card would it be?

Would you go with an expensive card? A favorite card? A card you could trade for a different card later?

We want to know which one — and we want to know why. For me, I really don’t know … it’s quite tough.

Please include your name and location with your comment. We’ll run a selection of the best answers in the next issue of Beckett Baseball.

We're not wanting a dream list or a who's who of sports legends. We simply want to know ... What types of game-used memorabilia would you like to see more of (in any sport)?

It seems like everything has been made into a memorabilia card through the years — though some items moreso than others.

Now, we want to know which ones stand out to you … which types of cards you’d want to see in future card sets?

We’re not wanting a dream list or a who’s who of sports legends. We simply want to know …

What types of game-used memorabilia cards would you like to see more of (in any sport)?

Maybe you’re a fan of the simple jersey swatch — jumbo-sized? Maybe you’re a fan of the few game-used dirt or artificial turf cards that have been made?

Maybe you’d like to see a pair of gane-used Air Jordans become memorabilia cards — or maybe a pair of football pads?

Maybe a batting helmet? Batting gloves? Or are you fans of baseballs, footballs and basketballs? Maybe you like stadium seats?

We want to know what you think should be made into a memorabilia card.

Are there any obvious items that just haven’t been done yet?

Tell us in the comments field below. A selection of the best answers just might appear in next month’s Beckett Sports Card Monthly – which will focus on game-used memorabilia and more.
