Today, we had the pleasure of busting three boxes of 2011 Press Pass Legends  Football with company frontman Nick Matijevich.

The Box Busters video should appear here shortly, but we managed to snag some scans for pre-show purposes. While the forthcoming talkie will tell more, the gallery below — featuring a sampling of hits, inserts and base cards from a single box — should give collectors a good idea of what to expect in Legends.
The soon-to-release Press Pass product serves up a nice blend of new and old players — all in the collegiate context, of course. Offering on-card autographs, inscriptions and quality patches (as seen above), Legends is an early-season release worth this look (and a look at the video), at the very least.

Update: The jersey sold for more than $167,000 at auction.

A jersey worn by former home run champion Hank Aaron during his rookie season in 1954 will be up for grabs in a Heritage Auctions sale next month and is expected to fetch six figures.

The autographed Milwaukee Braves flannel is the headliner in the Dallas-based company‘s April 21-22 Signature Sports Auction and the company projects at least a $200,000 sale for the consignor. The jersey previously had a No. 5 stitched into hit — which Aaron wore during his rookie year — before his familiar No. 44 replaced it. That means this jersey is likely to have been worn over two seasons.

“Short of Babe Ruth there are few baseball players more important or beloved than ‘Hammerin’ Hank Aaron,” said Chris Ivy, Director of Heritage Sports Collectibles, “and this is the gamer that was likely on those shoulders on April 23, 1954 when he hit the first of his [755] home runs.”

Other notable items scheduled to hit the auction block include:

– A 1947 game-used vault marked bat from Ted Williams estimated to hit $75,000.

– A swim cap worn by Michael Phelps in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as he won his eighth Olympic Gold estimated to top $20,000

– An Oakland Raiders jersey worn by Hall of Famer Jim Otto during his rookie season, which is also estimated at $20,000.
