There was plenty to see at the 2012 Sportcard & Memorabilia Expo this weekend, and plenty people may have missed.

Here’s a photo gallery from the the Fall Expo showcasing cards, memorabilia and some of the strange things going on at the show.

Beckett Media is getting ready for the 2012 Sportscard & Memorabilia Expo in Toronto this weekend.

The company will offer a wide variety of items and services for collectors such as grading, price guides and contests.

Here’s a breakdown at what collectors will be able to find at the Beckett booth.

Grading: Beckett Grading Services will be doing Raw Card and Graded Card Reviews on site. It will also be accepting BGS submissions and autograph items for JSA Authentication.

Price Guides: The 22nd annual Hockey Price Guide Book and Second Annual Graded Card Price Guide Book will be available to the public – along with the other sports. These are the big books with all the listings.

In addition, the December issue of Beckett Hockey will be available before it’s on sale anywhere else. The issue includes articles on TTM autographs, stories on collectors and will have Steve Yzerman on the cover.

Beckett will also be accepting new and renewal subscriptions for U.S. and Canadian readers.

Contests: A daily raffle will be held for customers who make a purchase at the booth, which includes grading services. There will be a minimum of four winners per drawing per day – three regular winners and one winner of a large prize valued up to $300 or more.

A purchase of $50 or more gets you in the raffle for the larger prize.

Customers must be present to win at the time of the drawing.

The times for the drawing are Friday 7 p.m.; Saturday 4 p.m.; Sunday 3 p.m.

Dealers: The Beckett booth will be a great place to for information such as how to get in the Dealer Directory, getting started with the dealer magazine and book program, info on the Beckett Marketplace, and Expo-only advertising specials.

Even if you want to just stop by and say ‘Hi,’ we’ll be there for that too.

Panini America will hold its Redemption Trade-Up Program during the 2012 Fall Expo this weekend.

Collectors who are holding multiple outstanding redemptions four months or older can redeem them for a card or cards of higher value.

Panini will assign values of $50, $100, $150 and $200 to cards and place them in grab bags. Based on the redemption a collector holds, they will get to choose a card from one of the grab bags.

“For example, a collector holding four outstanding redemption cards with a combined Beckett value of $100 will have the chance to swap those four cards for one $100 card via a carefully constructed grab-bag system,” Panini wrote on its blog.

The redemption cards must already be pending in the system and past four months due. Collectors will be able to get up to $400 in value at the show.

Collectors will have to sign a waiver stating they agree to the pulled replacement.

Panini asks to bring a print out from the company’s website showing the outstanding redemption. They will be checked on-site as well and values will be assigned.

The Redemption Trade-Up will take place Friday, Nov., 9 from 5-8 p.m.

The company will also offer collectors participating in Box Wars at the company booth a chance to replace any redemptions pulled on the spot.

In The Game knows the despair hockey fans are feeling during the lockout. The company is trying to ease the pain by bringing contests, prizes and autograph guests to its booth at the 2012 Fall Expo this weekend.

One of the contests involved getting into ITG’s safe that contains a game-worn jersey from each Darryl Sittler and Patrick Roy. If you get into the safe, one of those jerseys is yours.

ITG will provide more information on the contest at its booth in the In The GameLand area.

Other games include Deal or No Deal; He Shoot, He Scores; and Spin to Win.

ITG’s autograph guests include Spencer Martin: a highly touted goalie from the OHL looking to stake a claim in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, and Aaron Ekbland, a 15-year-old talent slated for the 2014 draft.

The signings are free and hours will be posted at ITG’s booth on Friday.

In the Game will showcase two of its products at the 2012 Fall Expo, and collectors have a chance to get exclusive expo cards.

Forever Rivals and Superlative Hockey Volume III will be highlighted at the 2012 Sportscards & Memorabilia Expo, both of which will be available at the show.

To get the exclusive game-used cards, open a box at the In The Game booth at the expo.

One box of Forever Rivals will get collectors one Forever Rival-themed memorabilia card that feature two, four or six pieces of memorabilia.

Athletes on the checklist include Jean Beliveau, Johnny Bower, Guy Lafleur, Patrick Roy and Felix Potvin.

In addition, all those who redeem a box of Forever Rivals will be eligible to win a Forever Rivals commemorative art piece by Paul Madden, whose work has appeared in many ITG products.

Each collector opening a box Superlative Hockey Volume III at the ITG booth will get two exclusive team Superlative Game-Used Memorabilia cards. These cards will feature three, four, five and six pieces of memorabilia. Each card will be limited to 10, including one gold 1-of-1.

Players on Superlative Volume III exclusive checklist include Roberto Luongo, Carey Price, Mats Sundin, Mario Lemieux, Luc Robataille and Marion Gaborik.

ITG will also hold several contests and games at its booth.

Panini America is continuing its popular wrapper redemption program at the 2012 Fall Expo.

Collectors can get base cards, short-prints and wild memorabilia cards.

Each wrapper redemption pack will contain two cards that can be from a variety of subsets. And the only way to get them is at the 2012 Sportscard & Memorabilia Expo, right outside of Toronto.

Cards in Panini’s Wrapper Redemption packs include rookies, memorabilia cards from the NHLPA Rookie Showcase, 1-of-1 sketch cards, instant-win cards for autographed memorabilia and more.

The different subsets in the wrapper redemption include:
- A 25-card NHL set with top names in the league, including 10 rookies numbered to 399
- 22-card set of Score Hot Rookies from all four major sports, numbered to 399
- An 18-card Rookie Materials set featuring jerseys and hats worn by rookies from basketball, football and hockey
- Tools of the Trade memorabilia cards of New York Rangers rookie Chris Kreider
- Scarce cards numbered to five or fewer
- NHL Player Sketch Cards numbered to 1-of-1

The Score Hot Rookies will feature the 1990 design and will highlight players from all four major sports, including some with Toronto ties.

Collectors can find rare autograph versions of these cards from players such as Yu Darvish, Mike Trout, Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III and Chris Kreider.

You can get the redemption packs by purchasing a box of 2012-13 Score Hockey or 2012-13 Certified Hockey. Take the box to the Panini booth and open these wrappers in front of a Panini representative.

One Score box will yield collectors one redemption pack. One Certified box will get collectors six redemption packs.

Even if there isn’t a hockey season, many fans aren’t going to let a lockout get in the way of their fun.

The 2012 Sportscard & Memorabilia Expo (known informally as the Toronto Fall Expo) is considered the National for hockey. The Toronto International Centre is covered with about 900 tables holding countless hockey cards.

No one wants to pull a redemption out of a pack of cards. Even worse is when you pull an expired one.

Ugh.

Upper Deck has experimented with ways to help collectors with these. It isn’t eliminating redemptions in products, that’s unrealistic for card companies that want hits with the best names in its products.

Instead, UD will continue running a raffle program it started at the 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention, but for Upper Deck redemptions only. The redemption card must also be for an autographed card or signed memorabilia item.

The 2012 Sportcard & Memorabilia Expo in Canada (also known as the Fall Expo) will host the next redemption giveaway. Upper Deck will hold a raffle for those who have entered their expired, unscratched redemptions on Saturday, Nov., 10 at 5 p.m.

Upper Deck has 100 prizes to give away such as autograph card from Michael Jordan, Sidney Crosby and Christian Ponder.

Unlike at the National, collectors do not have to attend to win.

Those who would like to enter should mail up to five unscratched, expired redemptions to:

Write your name, address, phone number and email on the front of the card.

Cards must be received by Oct. 31, to be considered for the Fall Expo.

For those that miss this deadline, Upper Deck is offering the program at least twice more in 2013, at the 2013 Las Vegas Industry Summit in March and 2013 National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago in August.
