PSA 8 Mickey Mantle collection set to hit Memory Lane auction block

A run of every Mantle card from his career — all PSA 8s — will be sold in the upcoming Memory Lane Inc. Winter Extravaganza Rarities Auction that opens Friday and closes on Dec. 13.

Bruce Griggs, a former minor-league pitcher in the Kansas City Royals organization, amassed the collection of near-mint/mint Micks during a decade-long hunt that began in 1998. The cards span from Mantle’s 1951 Bowman Rookie Card to Mantle’s last Topps card appearance, which came in 1969.
“I decided to sell at this point in time to give others in my generation the opportunity to own high-end cards of a true baseball icon,” said Griggs, who lives in Virginia. “I enjoyed this collection and displayed them proudly, but now it’s time to let go.”
According to the PSA Population Report, there are only 10 1951 Bowman Mantles graded higher and just 11 copies of the 1952 Topps card graded higher.
