Preview gallery: More Panini America National autographs
Panini America released additional images of autographed cards that will be found only in wrapper redemption packs at the upcoming National Sports Collectors Convention next week in Cleveland, Ohio.
Among the selection are autographed rookie cards from this year’s NFL class as well as past RCs like Peyton Manning, above. Also among the grouping is the third certified autographed card of professional wrestling legend “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair.

Chris Olds has collected sports cards and memorabilia since 1987. Before coming to Beckett Media, he wrote about the hobby for the Orlando Sentinel on his blog, SportsStuff, and for the San Antonio Express-News and The Tuscaloosa (Ala.) News. I relish the days when there was one Beckett. I miss the simplicity of card collecting and cataloging. I especially miss seeing the lists of the “old” cards and Fleer cards in the Beckett. Everything now is a high end card, autographed card or brand new card. Don’t forget about those of us who have cards that date pre-2000 including Fleer cards. Fleer no longrer produces cards but there are millions out there in circulation. C’mon guys – people do collect Fleer but you wouldn’t know it looking in your monthly magazines or online.
I still question your reluctance to list press plates. Perhaps an monthly catalog list of a given year(s) would help those of us who collect these rarities? You could list those of a given company, athlete, etc.
Also, sometime in the near future someone is going to have to face up to the pricing of press plates and cards with printing runs of less than 25. Like it or not it’s here to stay and one way or another if you don’t tackle the job someone else will.
Overall impression with Beckett? You’ve gone the way of the card companies. Too many magazines and books. You have lost those who enjoyed reading the Beckett long before all the new high end cards and packs came out. Seriously? packs of cards selling for over $100?
I enjoy reading about some of the pack pulls but enough already! You’re beating it to death and for the price being paid for most of these packs they all should be good pulls.
Online with Beckett is costly and frustrating too because unless you subscribe for the lists of each sport you are out of luck. Likewise, unless you collect the new stuff (i.e., post 2000’s) you won’t’t find much listed. Example; Your Topps 1982 baseball lists maybe 3-4 cards. That’s it. Search for a Fleer card or press plate in any sport and they are very difficult to find listed let alone priced by Beckett.
