A sweet bat barrel card from the newly released 2009 Sweet Spot baseball card set from Upper Deck has arrived on the auction block.

It’s one of only seven barrel cards for New York Yankees DH Hideki Matsui and the seller wants a cool $1,250 for it, Buy It Now, on eBay.

What makes this one more interesting?

Matsui has never worn No. 25 in the majors — Godzilla’s number has always been 55 with the Yanks — and he’s a Mizuno guy when it comes to his bats.

Among major leaguers who wore No. 25 are former New York Met Kazuo Matsui, now with the Houston Astros, who did use Nike bats during his time with the Mets.

Hence the “Just Do It.”

Does the error add to the value of the card? Some might say so. Some might be disappointed to see such a mistake, though, too. After all, the career numbers for Kaz Matsui aren’t exactly of Godzilla‘s caliber.

Upper Deck’s Chris Carlin told Beckett Media on Tuesday morning that the company is working with the seller to get the card back and correct the mistake.

Mistakes happen — we all know that.  It’s a good move to see that Upper Deck is going to fix it, too.
