Leaf is coming out with a new product in its “Best of” series with a new sport for the trading card company.

Best of Hockey is scheduled for a March release.

The product will feature graded Rookie Cards, autographs and prime memorabilia cards. It will also have unique sketch cards.

However, Leaf is throwing in something new to Best of Hockey. Collectors can pull redemptions for hobby boxes or packs. These boxes and packs span a number of years, including vintage packs from the 1979-80 season a boxes from the 2005-06 season, featuring one of the best NHL rookie classes.

Like its predecessors, Best of Hockey will have just two cards: one graded card (or hobby box redemption) and one sketch card where collectors can find randomly inserted autographed 1/1 Gordie Howe sketch cards.

The product highlights many years of hockey cards. Some of the cards on the sell sheet include a 1951-52 Parkhurst Terry Sawchuk Rookie Card PSA 6. An ungraded card has a HI Beckett book value of $1,200.

Other cards include a 2005-06 Sidney Crosby Upper Deck Young Guns RC BGS 10, a 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky Rookie Card, and a 1985-86 Topps Mario Lemieux RC BGS 9.5.

Yeah, they bought my Sidney Crosby Sweet Shots auto off the bay last summer … I didn’t know how to feel about that.

Honored? Maybe, but in sort of a sleazy way. I still don’t understand how they’re able to market a product in which the big pulls are other companies’ cards.

And yes, I get that they CAN, why is why they DO, but it still doesn’t seem right.

Oh well, congratulations to whoever pulls it — it’s a sweet card, no pun intended.

this is actually a brilliant idea. the lcs that i go to had baseball and football packs…a guy pulled a 52 topps mantle bgs 5 and a 2005 exquisite aaron rodgers patch auto. there is a lot of mediocre stuff in there too, but to get a chance to pull huge like that is sometimes worth picking up a pack or two.

This is going to be up there with ITG’s garbage History of Hockey. Brilliant ideas are not repackaging other companies cards, that’s just a cash grab and lazy ass companies with no creative minds at the helm. These idiots are laughing all the way to the bank when the lemming morons throw 250 at repackaged flea market crap. Bring on the dummies.
